It was a trip to West Africa at the age of 14 that changed my life forever. This was intended to be a "missions trip" but from the moment my feet hit the soil on the other side of the globe, I knew I was not there to teach the people anything. I was there to learn how the rest of the world lives.
Getting away from my home town and every day routine taught me a type of independence that I still carry with me to this day. I learned that it was ok to be totally alone , to not know anyone and to not even know where you are headed. ( Definitely no social media back then! ) I learned to be with my own thoughts, to live in the moment , to embrace different ways of thinking and different styles of living. I learned gratitude on a whole new level.
I had chosen Africa as my first international destination because I had seen so many "save the children" commercials on TV. I thought that I could make some sort of positive change or impact other people's lives by going there. What I thought I would be "giving" was what I actually ended up receiving. ( Funny how that law of attraction works.) Yes, these people had less "material" possessions than the average American but their contentment, kindness, acceptance and over-all way of life was something to truly be desired.
I thought, "Wow, if everyone back home could see what I'm seeing. If all people stepped into a culture different from their own more often, we would certainly understand each other more."
This trip was what started a life long addiction a.k.a. wanderlust inside of me and each time I visit a new place I find the same lessons to reign true. I am brought back to the more simplistic way of thinking, the joy of living in the moment and that feeling of being excited about life again!
Each time I have arrived in a new place, I have been able to love myself more, forgive others more, appreciate the little things in life more and am reminded what a small, beautiful world we live in.
Through hard work and dedication, I am so pleased to be offering these same opportunities for others to see the world through my Group Trip Company VIVE.
